Throughout the week, officials across North America will conduct routine commercial motor vehicle inspections, focusing on the condition of brake linings and pads. CVSA reports that in some jurisdictions, performance-based brake testers (PBBT), a machine that assesses the braking performance of a vehicle, will be used. Any vehicles inspected with a brake-related violation will be placed out-of-service until its noted violation(s) are resolved, potentially causing delivery delays.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each year, CVSA releases its brake safety week dates in advance to remind motor carriers to proactively check and service their vehicles to ensure safe roadways. Research has shown that announcing these dates ahead of time has improved overall compliance, and prepares drivers for inspection, but there are still many brake violations that occur. During CVSA\u2019s 2023 International Roadcheck, brake -system violations accounted for 25.2% of all vehicle out-of-service violations, the top vehicle violation for that year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CVSA\u2019s annual brake inspection goal is to emphasize the importance of brake systems and the critical safety reasons for routine inspections.
