According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.freightwaves.com\/news\/east-coast-ports-about-to-get-slammed-by-a-lot-more-ships\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FreightWaves<\/a>, there were 64 container ships waiting off of both East and Gulf Coast ports earlier this month.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-863cc72 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"863cc72\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\u201cThe number of liner services calling from Asia will surge to a new record high in the coming months,\u201d the publication reports. \u201cMore cargo is diverting away from the Pacific gateway in Los Angeles\/Long Beach, where the ship queue has fallen to 42.\u201d It goes on to say that escalating vessel backlogs along the East Coast and a deterioration in service for importers could both be coming in the months ahead.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d867404 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d867404\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe proof is in the numbers: FreightWaves says February volumes at East\/Gulf Coast ports rose 27.3% year on year compared to 5.9% growth for\u00a0West Coast ports. This was the ninth straight month that East\/Gulf Coast ports outpaced year-on-year growth of West Coast ports. Reasons for the shift include shippers\u2019 electing to change routing decisions and the fact that East\/Gulf Coast ports are in close proximity to a \u201cgreat concentration of the US population,\u201d FreightWaves explains.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7c54c10 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"7c54c10\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ae4d0f4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"ae4d0f4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Prime Hotspots<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b657f2e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b657f2e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe prime congestion \u201chotspots\u201d right now are in the US, China and Northern Europe. \u201cDisruption to global logistics and supply chains remains widespread, with the Ukraine conflict and new Covid-19 lockdowns in shipping\u2019s biggest market, China, contributing to further elevated levels of delay across the global maritime transportation system,\u201d Hellenic Shipping News reports. \u201cPort congestion remains a major contributor to elevated freight and strong market conditions in many shipping segments.\u201d\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4b27f8f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4b27f8f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tOn land, the continued pandemic impacts, driver shortages and vehicle shortages aren\u2019t making things any easier for shippers right now, and are in fact contributing to the port congestion to create a \u201cperfect storm\u201d of challenges for them to work through. Some companies are using alternate ports and offloading cargo in ports in Mexico, for instance, and then trucking the goods into the US for distribution.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d7aad29 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d7aad29\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tOther companies have turned to intermodal for shipments, deploying new driver recruitment strategies and utilizing technology to gain better supply chain visibility.
