From semiconductor chip shortages to a lack of ocean containers to extreme West Coast port congestion, it seemed like every week brought with it at least one more obstacle for companies to overcome.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-06fb3a7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"06fb3a7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>As we flip the calendar over to 2022 and wave goodbye to 2021, truck driver shortages, supply chain interruptions and port congestion will likely continue as big events like the Chinese New Year celebration and Beijing Olympics impact the flow. In\u00a0<i>2022 Crystal Ball: Assessing Current and Future Supply Chain Challenges &amp; Opportunities<\/i>,\u00a0Centerboard\u2019s\u00a0President states.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cd299e0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cd299e0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>\u201cDuring a \u2018normal\u2019 year we\u2019d see a surge of pre-ordering to get orders flowing in before the shutdown, to cover the inventory outage. This year, the outage itself may help clear up some of this backlog.\u201d<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f5848ab elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f5848ab\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>\u201cThere\u2019s no doubt that the tumultuous events of the past 18 months led to the massive disruption of many key supply chains,\u201d Jim Witham writes in Forbes\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/forbestechcouncil\/2021\/09\/09\/supply-chain-lessons-learned-from-the-covid-19-pandemic\/?sh=4723d9a24ca8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>Supply Chain Lessons Learned From The Covid-19 Pandemic.<\/i><\/a>\u00a0\u201cAlthough industries experienced supply chain fragility before the Covid-19 pandemic, the current scale and diversity of impact are unprecedented, with shortages in critical medical equipment, consumer electronics, cars and even lumber.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7452de4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7452de4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In assessing the lessons learned and new practices put into play as a result of the pandemic, Witham writes about how vulnerability must be an everyday\u2014not a 100-year\u2014planning event consideration, that just-in-time (JIT) manufacturing may have finally seen its day, and how the growing number of companies that now require semiconductors have made those organizations dependent on the chip supply.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5e9de66 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5e9de66\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>\u201cThe current automotive industry spends around $40 billion on chips per year. This will only grow with the rapid transition to electric vehicles (EVs), which require four times the number of semiconductors,\u201d writes Witham, who also feels that the relationships between supply chain partners must evolve as a result of the pandemic. Going forward into 2022, he expects the talent shortage, the transportation capacity crunch and mergers and acquisitions (M&amp;A) among global shipping companies to all continue.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c4a46f5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c4a46f5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>\u201cEveryone is learning how to do more with less through the current driver shortage, which will continue to delay companies looking to expand their fleet or increase capacity,\u201d Conlon writes. \u201cUnfortunately, we won\u2019t see relief any time soon, with nearly a quarter of the trucking workforce expected to hit retirement in the next decade.\u201d<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5dca0c0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5dca0c0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Looking further out, Conlon says the US infrastructure investment bill could bring some relief. Even with a positive outcome, he warns that the results will take time to surface. \u201cThere is no magic wand,\u201d he writes, \u201cand it\u2019ll take time to catch up to the infrastructure we need.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fba8936 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"fba8936\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>As with most things in life, patience will truly be a virtue as the pandemic pressures ease and organizations attempt to return to \u201cnormal\u201d in 2022.
